In our last four posts, we looked at the three tools that have for years provided us with safely functioning systems at the front end: HAZOP, HAZID and FMECA — and how to apply these tools to CyberSecurity risks. To recap, here is a diagram depicting where these tools should be applied across the phases of a typical Waterfall Life Cycle model:
Now is the time to look at your assets’ life cycles and begin to fortify yourself against CyberSecurity risks. HAZIDs, HAZOPs and FMECAs are appropriate within these phases of your lifecycle as a safeguard against CyberSecurity risks. Also, don’t neglect the cyber risks arising from system upgrades — at a minimum, you should perform an FMECA.
